Nando’s South Africa is arranging counselling for its “shocked” and “saddened” staff after a female employee was shot dead and another wounded last night.

The injured staff member was taken to hospital. She was discharged this morning.

A local newspaper named the woman who died as Phumeza Fudumele‚ a mother of two children.

The details around the shooting‚ in the Sunninghill area of Cape Town‚ are unclear.

“The incident apparently happened when the staff members were on their way home (by taxi) after working the evening shift at the Sandown Nando’s‚” the company said in a statement.

“Nando’s senior management are working to find out exactly what happened. They are also meeting with the store franchisee and with staff and family members to console them.”

Counselling has been arranged. “The restaurant is closed for business today as staff are given an opportunity to come to terms with the shock of last night’s tragedy‚” the company said.
