Wounded man drives to police station after attack

A man who sustained two gunshot wounds managed to drive his vehicle to the safety of a police station after coming under fire near King William’s Town on Tuesday.

His VW Golf vehicle was fired on by gunmen in a taxi on the Kleinskool main road at about 10am. A 33-year-old man in the car with him was fatally wounded.

Despite being shot in the back and hand‚ he drove to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Algoa Park and reported the incident.

 He was taken to hospital for treatment and police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

Half an hour earlier‚ a man and woman — aged 19 and 25 – were hit by bullets when the Nissan bakkie there were in was fired on the M4 in the direction of Port Elizabeth.

“The vehicle had been travelling in the middle lane when the suspects approached on the fast lane and opened fire‚” an SAPS statement said.

 Both victims were hospitalised.
