A newborn male baby, believed to be a few hours old, was found alive in a veld in Pietermaritzburg.
The Arrive Alive blog stated that the newborn was found by community members who called the police.
They found the baby hidden under a blanket down an embankment.
It is believed that the baby was born a few metres from where he was found.
The baby was assessed and no visible injuries were found. He was then transported to the hospital.
The baby weighs just under 3kg.
Police are investigating.
