Jailed #FeesMustFall student activist Bonginkosi Khanyile will remain in prison over the festive season.
Khanyile had gone to the Pietermaritzburg High Court to appeal the decision to refuse him bail in October and again last month. But on Thursday‚ Khanyile’s appication was dismissed by Judge Nkosinathi Chili.
Khanyile‚ a final-year Durban University of Technology public administration student‚ was arrested on September 27 during protest action and has been denied bail on two occasions by Durban magistrate Jackie Jonck.
Khanyile is believed to be the only Fees Must Fall activist still being held in custody. He is facing eight charges that include public violence‚ illegal gathering and inciting violence.
The Economic Freedom Fighters’ Students Command @EFFStudents tweeted that Judge Nkosinathi Chili was not convinced that the magistrate was wrong in denying bail‚ and dismissed the application.

Khanyile’s next court date is January 19‚ 2017 and remains in custody at least until then.
