Joburg takes firm stand against women and child abuse

Over 5‚000 sisters‚ misters‚ kids and dogs flooded the streets of the Johannesburg suburb of Fourways in a firm protest against the abuse of South African women and children at the 1st for Women Sisters with Blisters walk with Jacaranda FM.

A total of R350‚000 was raised on the day for Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) and the Centre for Community Justice and Development (CCJD).

“It is an honour and a privilege to be involved in such a phenomenal movement – one that states that we‚ as South Africans‚ will not tolerate abuse in any shape or form‚” said Casey Rousseau‚ spokesperson for 1st for Women Insurance and the 1st for Women Foundation which to date has raised over R49 million to fight violence against women.

 “Woman and child abuse is everybody’s concern – it’s an issue that while not abating in occurrence‚ is increasing in awareness. Through Sisters with Blisters we are making a positive and practical difference by inspiring victims of abuse to change their lives for the better.”

“Jacaranda FM have taken a stand against women and child abuse for over a decade now through the 1st for Women Sisters with Blisters event. Each year we make our voices heard in the hope that abused women have the courage to take a stand and change their circumstances positively; in some cases for themselves as well as their children‚” said Kevin Fine‚ General Manager of Jacaranda FM.
