The state wants the Brits Magistrate's Court in North West to revoke the bail it granted Mark Warona Zinde in his murder case.

Zinde, 23, is facing a count of murder in connection with the tragic killing of his mother, former SABC board member Hope Zinde, 50, in June.

He allegedly killed his mother with a blunt, heavy metal object at their home in Pecanwood, an up-market housing estate in Hartbeespoort, North West.

She was found dead in the boot of her SUV. The court was yet to hear if a charge of possession of drugs would be added to Zinde's docket. Magistrate Moses Maswanganyi granted Zinde bail of R10000 in September, ordering him to return to the Brits Magistrate's Court yesterday.

But the court yesterday heard he was now facing another case in Vereeniging. His lawyer, Francois Joubert, told Magistrate N Mtebele that the formal bail application in this new matter would be heard on Monday.

Sowetan reported last week that Zinde was back behind bars for allegedly assaulting and trying to strangle his father Lebohang Manoto at his Walkerville, south of Johannesburg, home.

Zinde allegedly attacked Manoto while he was reading a newspaper. Manoto took him in after he was released on bail on the murder charge.

Correctional services officials transferred Zinde from Vereeniging to Brits yesterday. Three family members, including his grandmother Audrey Zinde, were in court yesterday.

Asking for postponement of the hearing of the murder case to December 19, prosecutor Hanna Conradie told Mtebele that he would apply for the withdrawal of Zinde's bail.

"The accused is currently in custody for another matter. He's on bail in this matter," said Conradie. "The state will bring application for cancellation of bail [on December 19]."

Conradie was from the start vehemently opposed to Zinde's bail. He had argued his release would endanger lives of two children and two women living in Manoto's house.

But making his ruling, Maswanganyi said it was merely Conradie's opinion that Zinde was dangerous.

Joubert said the state wanted his client's bail withdrawn for no other reason beside the assault case. He said he would oppose the state's application. "The state wants to bring an application to revoke his bail . because he was arrested in another matter. I will apply that bail be extended," Joubert said.
