Zuma writes to Abrahams‚ top NPA colleagues‚ asks for reasons why he shouldn't suspend them

President Jacob Zuma has written to National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams and his senior colleagues Sibongile Mzinyathi and Torie Pretorius asking them to provide reasons why he should not suspend them and hold an inquiry into their fitness to hold office.

“The President’s decision follows a request by Freedom Under Law and the Helen Suzman Foundation for the President to suspend the three advocates pending an inquiry into their fitness to hold office‚” a statement issued by the Presidency on Tuesday afternoon said.

The two organisations raised concerns with the manner in which the three conducted the prosecution of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and former senior Sars colleagues Ivan Pillay and George Magashula.

“The President has requested the three advocates to make written representations to him‚ as to why they should not be placed on suspension and whether to hold an inquiry into their fitness to hold office‚” the Presidency said.
