‘No concern of predators escaping in flood‚’ Joburg’s zoo insists

The Johannesburg Zoo has put measures in place to ensure that no animals escape following the collapse of its boundary wall in the flash floods on Wednesday.

“We would like to allay any fears of animals escaping from the Zoo‚ Johannesburg City Parks spokesperson‚ Jenny Moodley said.

“There is no concern or danger of predator animals escaping.”

Moodley added that the Zoo is now fully operational.

On its Twitter page‚ the Zoo said it was attending to stressed animals.

It had also played down fears that reptiles may have escaped.

At least four people were confirmed to have died in the floods and a search continues for three-year-old girl who was swept away in Alexandra.

More wet weather is expected in Gauteng with a 60% chance of rain expected on Friday and Saturday.

The SA Weather Service said it will monitor the situation and issue an alert if one is needed. – TMG Digital
