First day of matric exams in Gauteng goes without incident

The National Senior Certificate examinations (NSC) in Gauteng commenced on Wednesday with no disruptions or any paper leakage reported across the province‚ according to the Gauteng education department.

All Grade 12 learners in the province are writing the English paper with other official languages to follow during the day‚ the department said.

“The districts and Provincial Monitoring Team (PMT) will continue to efficiently monitor the NSC examinations until the end‚” it added.

“The candidates are writing their exams in 1‚158 centres across all our 15 Districts in the Province. The department has done everything possible to provide the best possible chance for each learner to do well in these exams.”

The department said it was working with law enforcement agencies to ensure that all measures were taken to strengthen security during the examinations.
