Taxi overturns – at least 15 people injured

Fifteen people‚ including a child‚ sustained various injuries when a taxi overturned on the R550 in Jacksonville‚ Grassmere‚ south of Johannesburg on Sunday morning.

ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said paramedics from ER24 and other services had arrived on the scene at about 11.30am to find the majority of the injured lying outside of the taxi.

 “It is believed that most of them were ejected from the vehicle‚” he said.

 Thirteen people‚ including a child of about three years old‚ sustained minor to moderate injuries.

 “Two people sustained injuries that required advanced life support intervention. They sustained fractures and possible spinal injuries.

 “All of the occupants were treated on the scene and later transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further care‚” Vermaak said.
