Three people were killed in a head-on collision in Brandfort‚ approximately 60 kilometres north-east of the Free State capital of Bloemfontein in the early hours of Sunday‚ paramedics said.
“Shortly after 4am this morning‚ paramedics from ER24 and local fire fighters arrived on the scene where they found two vehicles with severe damage in the middle of the road.
“One of the vehicles had a woman‚ believed to be in her late twenties. She sustained fatal injuries. Unfortunately‚ there was nothing that paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene‚” said ER24 emergency medical service spokesman Werner Vermaak.
“The other vehicle had two occupants. A man and a woman‚ believed to be in their early thirties‚ were found inside of the vehicle. The woman was found with fatal injuries inside of the vehicle and declared dead.
“The male driver was found with critical injuries. He was extricated from the vehicle. Sadly‚ shortly after he was removed from the vehicle‚ his vital signs deteriorated and paramedics had to perform CPR. Despite the efforts of the paramedics‚ they were unable to revive him. He was later declared dead on the scene‚” Vermaak said.
