An Eastern Cape mother of two is expected to appear in the Peddie Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (20/09/16) on a charge of child abuse.

The 24-year-old – whose children are 8 and 6 – was arrested after the eldest was allegedly assaulted and tied with chains and a lock on Friday afternoon.

Police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said the incident was reported to police at the weekend.

“Social workers were alerted. The children have been moved to their grandmother who lives in a neighbouring village. Schooling for the children has also been arranged‚” Govender said.

“The child suffered no visible injuries. During a visit today (Tuesday) the child was playing.”
