Prosecutors seeking to add more charges against former ANC councillor

Prosecutors in the trial of former North West ANC councillor Gaasite Legalatladi want to add three more charges‚ on top of the conspiracy to murder and incitement to commit murder charges that she is already facing.

This was after it emerged that Legalatladi allegedly tried to kill two other politicians besides allegedly plotting to kill Premier Supra Mahumapelo and Mahikeng local municipality mayor Gosiame Seatlholo.

Legalatladi was arrested in December 2014 after she was exposed by the sangoma she approached to assist her to kill Mahumapelo and Seatlholo.

On Wednesday during the beginning of the much her awaited trial‚ state prosecutor Ofentse Rantsane said she would have to explain her motives for allegedly trying to kill Ngaka Modiri Molema District municipality Mayor Justice Makolomakwa and an ANC councillor at the Mahikeng local municipality‚ Pontsho Tabane.

Rantsane said attempted murder and incitement to commit murder charges will be taken as alternative on count one and conspiracy to murder will be used as an alternative to count two.

Legalatladi who pleaded not guilty to all the charges‚ allegedly approached a traditional healer in Mmasebudule near Zeerust whom she asked to help her kill the senior officials.

According to the Hawks‚ she apparently wanted Mahumapelo to die because he took her parents’ farm and Seatlholo for taking over her promised position of becoming a mayor. It was not explained in court as to why she also wanted to kill Makolomakwa and Tabane.

The state called its first witness‚ Pono Molefe‚ a traditional healer who referred Legalatladi to the traditional healer in Mmasebudule after realising that he was incapable of giving her a muthi to kill a person.

He told the court that he had told Legalatladi that there was no muthi or herb that could or was made to kill a person. He said he then referred her to another traditional healer in Mmasebudule. That is where Legalatladi was trapped by the police and allegedly confessed‚ not knowing that everything she was saying was captured in a video. She was then arrested.

 The trial continues.
