A North West woman who stabbed her two-year-old daughter to death will know her fate on Monday after sentencing proceedings were postponed on Wednesday.

Boipelo Gracious Mongale‚ 32‚ of Lomanyaneng village in Mahikeng‚ appeared in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court earlier.

She was convicted on June 2.

Magistrate Abigail Juris postponed sentencing to Monday because Mongale’s lawyer was ill.

Mongale‚ who wore a brown jacket and jeans‚ was remanded in custody.

She was arrested at her home in April 2014.

She used a knife to stab her daughter below her ribs and then wrapped her with a dusty pink towel and the baby’s head and cheeks with a white cloth.

The baby’s mouth was also stuffed with a cloth. The motive of the killing is still unknown.

According to the charge sheet‚ police were called to the scene by the child’s father.

On arrival‚ they found Mongale sitting in her bedroom next to her daughter’s lifeless body.

Next to the bed was a blue plastic basin containing blood.

Mongale unwrapped the child in front of the police who found several stab wounds on her body.

While the police questioned her‚ Mongale spoke to herself.
