Three injured after train and bakkie collision

Three people were injured when a train hit a bakkie at a rail crossing in Paarl in the Western Cape on Sunday morning‚ paramedics said.

“It is understood that the bakkie was crossing the railway line at the time of the incident‚” ER24‚ which attended to the accident along with the metro emergency services‚ said.

“Upon arrival at the scene paramedics found the bakkie near the train tracks. The bakkie was badly damaged and the canopy had come off. It is understood that one person seated at the back of the bakkie was ejected. Upon assessment of the patient he was found to have sustained moderate injuries.

“The passenger and driver of the vehicle were also assessed. They were also treated for moderate injuries and transported to hospital for further medical care‚” ER24 said.
