SABC protest blackout prevented public from ‘seeing ugly face of the ANC’ in Tshwane

The violence that rocked parts of Tshwane on Monday and Tuesday left those “who experienced it traumatised and shocked”.

But‚ “viewers of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) would not have seen the mayhem that the African National Congress (ANC) cadres caused”‚ the Congress of the People noted.

That’s because the ruling party and the state broadcaster “anticipated what was going to happen during the elections and that is why both ordered censorship of violent demonstration”‚ Cope’s Dennis Bloem opined.

Mantashe: ANC won’t back down on Didiza

Recently‚ SABC chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the broadcaster would no longer flight visuals of violent protests as he believed he spurred copycat protests.

Cope has previously criticised Motsoeneng for being a mouthpiece for the ruling party.

He said the “brutal and violent display of dog-eat-dog” was not aired as the “ANC is trying its best not to publicise its problems…over the past seven years”‚ added Bloem.

EFF to ANC: ‘Get your house in order’

“The nomination of Thoko Didiza as the ANC’s mayoral candidate has upset self-absorbed cadres who were waiting to cash in. Their response to being blocked was to unleash frightening violence and destruction.”

But‚ neither the ANC nor the SABC “wanted the nation to see the ugly face of the ANC”.

“Viewers of SABC would have missed out. Viewers of eTV‚ however‚ did not. How long will this right exist under the ANC’s democratic autocracy?” asked Bloem. – TMG Digital
