Reeva Steenkamp’s father Barry Steenkamp will be the first state witness to testify in the sentencing proceedings of his daughter’s murderer Oscar Pistorius.

Pistorius served just a year of a five-year prison term for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva in 2013.

Judge Thokozile Masipa was resentencing Pistorius in the Pretoria High Court for the second time this week after the Supreme Court of Appeal set aside the culpable homicide conviction and replaced it with that of murder last year.

While Reeva’s mother‚ June‚ attended a large part of the actual trial‚ Barry could not attend due to ill health.

Earlier on Tuesday‚ a pastor who visited Pistorius while he was in jail described him as a broken man and who expressed his sorrow.

Marius Nel testified that he saw Pistorius at Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria and said he provided spiritual care and support to him.

Nel also described Pistorius’ involvement in a charity project concerning sports development.
