Claim that Pistorius saw body of hanged man in prison not true

The court sentencing Paralympian athlete Oscar Pistorius heard on Monday that Pistorius’s claim that he saw the body of an inmate who had hanged himself in Kgosi Mampuru II Prison last year was not true.

Pistorius had been serving a five-year prison term for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in prison before being released after serving one year. However‚ this sentence of culpable homicide was overturned by the Supreme Court of Appeal to that of murder.

Nel said this incident‚ mentioned by psychologist Jonathan Scholtz‚ did not happen.

Nel also disputed Scholtz’s testimony that Pistorius was assaulted in prison.

“I have access to the complaints register‚ he complained often and about everything‚” Nel said.

Scholtz replied that he did not say that Pistorius reported the assault.

Nel also said illegal medication was found in his cell during a search of his cell. This is believed to be for depression.

In his testimony in which he recommended that Pistorius should not serve further jail time‚ Scholtz said Pistorius was suffering from acute depression.
