Swift action by police results in arrest of suspected robbers

Swift action by Port Elizabeth police on Friday saw four suspects in custody within hours of allegedly robbing a pedestrian of a laptop and cellphone.

While arresting the suspects‚ police also recovered a hijacked vehicle as well as other stolen property and seized a firearm.

The suspects allegedly drove past the victim in a white BMW man‚ before turning around‚ stopping and robbing him at gunpoint.

The suspects fled but were spotted and stopped a short while later in Deal Party area by members of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad. When they searched the vehicle they found a firearm. It was also discovered that vehicle was positively linked to a hijacking in Algoa Park last week.

“The suspects were questioned and the residence of one of the suspects was searched and the stolen laptop and cell phone belonging to the complainant was recovered‚” said Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg.

She said the suspects would appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of armed robbery‚ illegal possession of a firearm‚ and possession of suspected stolen property.
