The SABC confirmed on Friday there will be no retrenchments at the public broadcaster after it reached a salary increase agreement with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) for 2016.

The agreement is applicable to all CWU members and non-unionised employees and will be implemented at the end of May 2016‚ backdated from April 2016.

Negotiations with the other union‚ the Broadcast‚ Electronic Media and Allied Workers Union‚ are still ongoing.

Speaking on SABC TV‚ its chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng said he was happy an agreement had been reached.

“We are encouraging all unions to work together with management. It is key we build trust between ourselves and the union‚” Motsoeneng said.
