Metrorail on Tuesday said that trains were running smoothly in Gauteng after an early-morning protest by members of a community initially threatened services at the Oakmoor station in Kempton Park.

Gauteng Metrorail Spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said that community members caused a delay at 4am at the station‚ but commuters would not be impacted by delays as the matter had been resolved.

Mofokeng said that the protest had nothing to do Metrorail as it was a service delivery protest.

Commuters using Metrorail in Cape Town could expect delays after a weekend arson attack at Cape Town Station‚ in which two trains were set alight.

Metrorail said in a statement that platforms 11 and 12 at Cape Town Station are still out of service following the fire.
