Durban's accountant-gardener lines up job interviews

Reluctant gardener Bongani Mtolo will be going for his first job interview on Wednesday since graduating with an accounting degree in 2011.

The 27-year-old has been contacted by several companies since The Times on Friday reported on his struggle to find a job despite having an accounting national diploma‚ BTech in cost and management accounting and Pastel accounting certificate.

“I am nervous. This is my first job interview. I will give it my best‚” he said.

He has interviews lined up with five companies for bookkeeping and finance positions.

 Mtolo‚ from Folweni township south of Durban‚ was forced to give up his dream of a new house‚ financially supporting his family and working in a field that he loved‚ after at least 100 job applications to companies around the failed over the years.

 He currently earns R70 a day as a part-time gardener and painter.
