Maimane to launch 'jobless billboard'

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane is set to launch an “unemployment billboard” in the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday‚ the party announced on Tuesday.

The billboard will be part of a campaign to “recognise the plight of the jobless” and to roll out “solutions to the unemployment crisis”.

The party said that 2016 would be a tipping point for the country’s economy‚ with more people expected to join the ranks of the unemployed.

“With the economy forecast to grow at a rate of less than 1.5%‚ with rising inflation‚ escalating food prices‚ water and electricity tariff hikes it is clear that the decks are stacked against ordinary South Africans who are already under severe pressure‚” the party said.

“Now more than ever‚ the country and its people need bold leadership in the economy and sound macroeconomic policies which the ANC and President Jacob Zuma have failed to provide.”
