KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu has expressed concern about the continued incidents of murder at the Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi near Durban.
This follows two more killings at the notorious hostel at the weekend.
Police have confirmed that a woman was killed outside the hostel while on her way to her home in Mega Village on Friday. It is alleged that the woman‚ known as Makhosi‚ had knowledge of the identities of those who had recently killed her relative‚ Mlinyelwa Gobidolo.
Gobidolo was shot and killed by armed men in the presence of Makhosi on December 1 at Reunion Station.
On Saturday morning another body of an unknown man was found outside the hostel. Police are investigating the two murders and no one has been arrested.
Mchunu condemned the killings‚ describing the situation as unacceptable.
“We are really concerned and disappointed that despite numerous attempts made to end violence at the hostel‚ the killing of people is continuing.
“These horrific acts demonstrate the need to intensify our efforts to remove this scourge from society‚” said Mchunu.
