SACP pushing for media transformation

Ownership and management control are two of the key focus areas the South African Communist Party has agreed to make its top priorities in pushing for the transformation of the media‚ General Secretary Blade Nzimande says.

The other key focus areas are media content diversity; robustly independent accountability; workplace transformation‚ employment equity‚ and skills development for media workers.

Nzimande‚ who is the country’s Minister for Higher Education and Training‚ was speaking at a Red October rally in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga

“Ownership of South Africa’s media today is among the most concentrated in the world‚ despite the fact that all empirical research shows that ownership concentration negatively affects democracy‚ diversity of perspective and even digital access‚” Nzimande said.
