Nigerian national in the dock for human trafficking

A 33-year-old Nigerian national will appear before the East London Regional Court on Friday (13/11/2015) on charges of human trafficking as well as contravention of bail conditions.

Chinemere Amagwoyi‚ was set to be sentenced in April 2012 with co-accused Prince Agu (35) but the duo decided not to attend the trial and left the country.

A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued against them.

Amagwoyi and Agu were first arrested in June 2010 after they allegedly trafficked two female teenagers‚ aged 15 and 16 years from Johannesburg to East London.

The victims were forced to work as prostitutes in Quigney until they were rescued by a Durban prostitute. She hid them at her friend’s house until they were found by police during routine patrols in the area.

For three years the suspects have been at large until February this year (2015) when Amagwoyi was re-arrested.

The two were initially released on bail and the Hawks are still hot on the heels of Agu.
