Three people killed after shooting in Inanda

A 45-year-old man was arrested for the murder of three people in the Mzinyathi area in Inanda‚ north of Durban.

Police said the suspect shot and killed three people on Sunday afternoon: Siphokuhle Molefe (55)‚ his wife Zandile (48)‚ and Nompumelelo Ndwandwe (45).

A fourth victim managed to escape unharmed during the shooting.

The four people reportedly went to the suspect’s house to fetch linen when a domestic argument flared up. The suspect allegedly produced a licensed firearm and began shooting. One victim died in the house‚ another in their car‚ and another at a neighbour’s house.

The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested while in possession of the firearm‚ which will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if it was used during the crime.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the killing of family members by the suspect.

“This is unacceptable; we encourage the community to resolve their differences peacefully rather than to attack each other. I commend the Inanda police for arresting the suspect‚” she said.
