3 gunned down in 'family dispute'

Durban - Three people were gunned down in Inanda near Durban on Sunday in what appears to be the result of a family dispute.

KZN Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu, in a statement, said the finer details regarding what led to the shooting remain unclear.

"It has been learnt that a woman who is engaged to the prime suspect in this case, along with her relatives, had arrived at the home of the suspect to fetch some belongings. The suspect allegedly opened fire on the three relatives, who died. The fiancée managed to escape unharmed," he said.

Mchunu said that police were fast to react and managed to apprehend the man, who was caught with an illegal firearm.

"This is a shocking and disgusting incident that should be condemned by all. We, however, welcome that police have swiftly arrested the suspect and hope that the full details behind these murders will emerge and the law will take its course," he said.

Mchunu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those who were killed.
