Hubby said dead wife was 'a nuisance'

A man on trial for the murder of his wife allegedly told a prostitute that he needed help in getting rid of a nuisance, the Durban Magistrate's Court heard.

Inderasan Maistry, 46, was the last suspect to be arrested after his wife's lifeless body was found dumped at Ezimbokodweni - about 30km south of Durban - in March last year.

It is the state's case that Maistry masterminded his wife's murder by procuring the services of Bongani Manyathi, 29, and Mandlenkosi Zamokwakhe Jobe, 42.

The two allegedly hired Sfiso Joyisa as their driver. They then allegedly headed to Maistry's home where his wife Soraya Naidoo was alone. They allegedly broke into the home, robbed Naidoo of cellphones and other valuables.

The state alleges that Naidoo was forced at gunpoint into the couple's vehicle and driven to Ezimbokodweni. Joyisa allegedly drove the vehicle to Ezimbokodweni where Naidoo was strangled and shot dead.

Manyathi and Jobe were arrested after a month of police investigations and Jobe handed himself in and has turned state witness.

Jobe told police that he was introduced to the crime world by Joyisa who worked as a bouncer at a Durban night club.

Testifying yesterday, investigating officer Rajen Nagesar said a woman working in a Durban massage parlour had linked Maistry to the murder.

It is alleged that Maistry had sexual encounters with the woman and was a regular client at the escort agency.

During one of their encounters, Nagesar testified, Maistry allegedly told the prostitute that he needed assistance with getting rid of somebody who was a nuisance in his life.

The woman agreed to assist Maistry and linked him with the accused.

The accused face one count of murder, one of theft, one of possession of an unlicensed firearm and one of aggravated robbery.

The accused have pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
