Five suspected drug dealers have been remanded in custody till July 28 after a brief appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The suspects were arrested during a special intelligence-driven operation conducted in the Limpopo capital over three days last week‚ police spokesman Colonel Ronel Otto said.

“Chiadikaobi Onwuka was arrested for the possession of 132 bags of CAT and nine bags of crystal meth‚ five rocks of cocaine as well as small bags of dagga. He also had R30‚000 in his possession.

“Kenneth Maduabuchukwu was arrested for the possession of four small bags of CAT and four bags of dagga. Antoni Okeke was arrested for being in possession of CAT as well as an unlicensed firearm. Hing Choi was arrested for being in possession of crystal meth and Andy Ma for being in possession of dagga‚” Col Otto said.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the province‚ Lieutenant-General Fannie Masemola said the arrests were “only an indication of more operations and arrests to come during the rest of the year”.

He said police were prioritising arrests‚ especially of suspects dealing in drugs because they were destroying the future of many bright and talented young people. Many families were also being destroyed by drug abuse.
