Ramaphosa declared Fresnaye property to Parliament

The Presidency on Sunday raised concern that an article about Cyril Ramaphosa’s “new luxury mansion” in Cape Town “could be published without seeking comment from the office of the deputy president”.

City Press reported that Ramaphosa‚ through a family trust‚ had bought land in upper Fresnaye‚ at the foot of Lion’s Head‚ for R30-million to build his “retirement home”.

As the plots are registered at the deeds office at a combined size of 1 423m²‚ the paper reported‚ the deputy president “forked out R21 000 per square meter just for the land”.

The Presidency on Sunday “noted” the reportand said it “wishes to put it on record that two properties were acquired in 2010 through a loan secured against a different property under his family’s Tshivhase Trust”.

“The ownership of the two Cape Town properties forms part of Deputy President Ramaphosa’s financial declarations to Parliament and Cabinet‚” the statement said.
