A championship-winning team has officially been dismantled‚ but Kaizer Chiefs is not in crisis‚ according to club chairman Kaizer Motaung.

He on Tuesday confirmed the departure of coach Stuart Baxter‚ who still had a year left on his contract‚ but argued he was not fazed by the winds of change.

Following Baxter on the way out are Itumeleng Khune‚ skipper Tefu Mashamaite‚ Mandla Masango‚ Katlego Mphela‚ Siyabonga Nkosi and veteran Josta Dladla.

Motaung denied that Baxter‚ a two-time Premier League winner in his three seasons with Chiefs‚ was leaving the club because he wasn’t given complete freedom to recruit players.

“I am not nervous at all. I’ve seen players come and go and this is not a train smash‚” said Motaung.

“I have been in this game all my life‚ from being a player‚ coach and also as an administrator. The pressure is what drives us in this game.

“We have done a wholesale clean-out before and came out of it‚ so this transition is not anything new for us.”

Chiefs did not announce new players‚ preferring to keep mum on who could arrive before the start of the new season.

Motaung said there was no shortlist of candidates to replace Baxter either‚ despite Maritzburg United mentor Steve Komphela being strongly linked with the now vacant coaching post.

“The team is stable. It’s not like it was three years ago [when Baxter arrived]. We will be planning for the future as well as the new season.

“I am confident that we will come up with solutions and we might even go back to Scotland because we have had so much success with Scotsmen if you think of Joe Frickleton as well as what Baxter have done for this club‚” Motaung said.

The Chiefs boss has always held the view that no local coach is good enough to be at the helm in Naturena.

Motaung said he was already inundated with calls from top international coaches asking about the possibility of replacing Baxter.

“I’ve always said we will cast our net wide‚ but I don’t want to say we will ignore local coaches. We have to look at what the local scenario can offer us.

“But we do that in line with how we are going to beef up the squad‚” the Amakhosi boss said.
