By the time Basic Education Minster Angie Motshekga briefs ton Thursday he media she will have had 10 days to study the preliminary report into the “Jobs for Cash” investigations.

Motshekga’s office said she will “provide an update on the work of the task team having now received the preliminary report”.

‘The ministerial task team had been established after “numerous reports that certain posts for teachers and principals had been given to individuals who had paid cash to secure the jobs”

The minister’s statement did not mention that the reports had accused South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) members of selling the posts. Sadtu‚ at the time the allegation were made‚ denied the allegations and undertook to co-operate with investigations.

Motshekga earlier this month told the Democratic Alliance (DA)‚ who had been pushing for the release of the report‚ that it would be handed to no later than December 7.

In a letter to the DA‚ Motshekga said that since the beginning of the investigation last year‚ the task team had been flooded with complaints related to the allegation of the selling of posts‚ so more investigators had been deployed.

Apart from the allegations of irregular appointments and the role played by members of unions or department officials‚ the task team was also instructed to investigate the problems regarding the advertising and filling of posts.

The DA had criticised the slow pace of the probe.
