The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services‚ Siyabonga Cwele — who previously denounced his department as wracked by infighting and maladministration — said today he has decided to charge the Director-General‚ Rosey Sekese.

“Ms Sekese was served with charges and the disciplinary process started on Tuesday‚ 3 November 2015. The Department will advise the public once these processes have been concluded by the chairperson of the inquiry‚” Cwele said in a brief statement.

Cwele told MPs in August that he had asked the Public Service Commission to conduct an inquiry into the management of the department.

He painted a picture of a dysfunctional institution‚ saying at the time: “It becomes worrying if problems are even at senior level because you have to rely on senior managers to manage these things on your behalf”.

In July‚ about 80% of senior staff were issued with warning letters by Ms Sekese‚ for non-performance in the first quarter of this financial year.

Three deputy directors-general also left the department in five months.
