Light aircraft crashes into house in Midrand

A light aircraft has crashed into a house in Midrand‚ midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria‚ ER24 emergency medical service reported.

One person‚ believed to be the pilot‚ who apparently ejected from the aircraft was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. No one was injured in the house‚ ER24 said.

“Various emergency services attended the scene of a light aircraft crash at approximately 12:15 this afternoon in Midrand.

“Paramedics that arrived on the scene found members from the Grand Central Airport Fire Department already on scene. It appeared that one person was ejected from the aircraft during the crash. Paramedics treated the man for serious injuries on the scene before taking him through to a nearby hospital‚” ER24 said.

“The exact cause for the crash is not yet known. It is understood that the aircraft crashed into a house. No one else was injured‚” the emergency medical service said‚ adding that local authorities were at the accident scene.

No other details were immediately available.

It’s the second light aircraft crash in the Johannesburg area in the last few days. A man was killed when a microlight aircraft crashed near a sports club in Randburg on Friday.
