Eight members of a KwaZulu-Natal South Coast family‚ including two babies‚ were hacked to death on Wednesday morning.
The family was attacked at 2.25am at Mabaleni near Mtwalume.
It is believed that four men‚ two women and two babies were killed‚ while a child with Down Syndrome was unharmed in the attack.
One of the victims was allegedly set alight.
Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the horrific attack.
He said the motive for the attack was unknown at this stage.
