DJ Donald Sebolai found guilty of murder

Former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai has been found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Rachel Flavia “Dolly” Tshabalala

He was also found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice for cleaning up the crime scene, however he was acquitted on the charge of theft of a motor vehicle

The murder trial kicked off this morning at the Johannesburg High Court‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

Sebolai‚ 38‚ allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Rachel Flavia “Dolly” Tshabalala‚ 32‚ after the couple fought at his Soweto flat in June last year.

Sebolai‚ also known as “DJ Donald Duck”‚ pleaded not guilty to murder‚ claiming he acted in self-defence.

Judge Cassim Moosa on Monday started summarising the testimonies of the state’s 12 witnesses‚ including that of the doctor who conducted Tshabalala’s post-mortem.

Tshabalala sustained a wound to her lower abdomen‚ which extended to the root of her right thigh‚ and died of excessive blood loss. Her body was found‚ half naked‚ in Sebolai’s home by the police.

The court had heard earlier that Tshabalala and Sebolai’s love affair was abusive at times‚ which Moosa has also raised in his summary of the evidence.

Members of Tshabalala’s family broke down in tears as Moosa read evidence relating to her injuries.

Sentencing proceedings are expected on November 25.
