‘Show the courage that defeated apartheid #Unite against corruption’ - Archbishop

South Africans need to apply the kind of courage they did in the fight against apartheid in the fight against corruption.

That’s according to Thabo Makgoba‚ the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.

Makgoba joined more than 1‚000 Capetonians in the “United against Corruption March” to Parliament yesterday.

Addressing the crowd‚ which included ordinary citizens and members of different civil society groups like the Right To Know‚ Social Justice Coalition‚ United Front and Equal Education‚ Makgoba encouraged South Africans to speak up.

“Today those old leaders‚ who showed courage in the old struggle‚ have not only abandoned the concept of courage‚ today they punish anyone who tries to uphold the principles of courage‚” said Makgoba.

He said South African leaders needed a “cold shower of reality to shock” them back to their senses.

“Today we should be asking ‘aren’t we ready to fulfil our country’s destiny by showing the same kind of courage that won our liberation from Apartheid’‚” he said.

In Pretoria‚ notable figures attending the anti-corruption protest included EFF leader Julius Malema‚ UDM leader Bantubonke Holomisa‚ Numsa’s Irvin Jim‚ former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and Bishop Joe Seoka. The march started at Burgers Park in the Pretoria CBD before making its way to the Union Buildings.
