Minister disagrees with SABC crisis

Communications minister Faith Muthambi was put on the spot when her denial of a crisis at the SABC was shown to be contradicted by ANC policy documents.

Muthambi said that the SABC was on the right track‚ and defended the right of its CEO‚ Hlaudi Motsoeneng‚ to state his views that the media must be regulated.

The minister was visibly flustered‚ though‚ when DA MP Gavin Davis quoted from internal discussion documents prepared for the upcoming ANC national general council stating very clearly that the SABC was in crisis.

The ANC document states that the SABC finds itself in a crisis due to leadership‚ accountability and leadership.

Muthambi then claimed it was merely a discussion document aimed at eliciting debate‚ and that it did not necesserily represent ANC opinion‚ causing much hilarity on the opposition benches.
