North West FM loses its rising starlet

Vuyo Comfort Matunda passed away on Thursday, 20 August after her battle with cancer.

Matunda joined North West FM just after the station went on-air in 2008. Her break-in role was that of presenter for the station’s current affairs program, Viewpoint, before going on to present various music shows.

“We know for a fact that Vuyo left a mark and made a valuable contribution to the broadcasting sector and was an inspiration to countless young girls, particularly in the North West. She has been with the station through thick and thin and we will continue to appreciate her commitment, dedication and loyalty to the station,” says North West FM station manager, David Mabusela.

At the time of her passing she had settled into the ‘Pillow Talk’ show (00:00 – 03:00) which she co-hosted with Keabetswe Ncube in addition to also co-hosting with seasoned broadcaster Aldrin Mogotsi on his show, Platinum Network Castle, on Friday’s at 8pm to midnight and on Saturday from 6pm to 10pm.

Her passing is a considerable loss to both the station and most importantly, to her family. Her passing has left her colleagues at North West FM deeply saddened. “The condolences we, as the North West family, are sending to Vuyo’s family are deeply heart-felt and sincere,” adds Mabusela.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, 27 August at 12:00 at University Chapel in Mahikeng.
