Ports company being used by job scammers

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is the latest company to issue a warning to “the public against social media scams promising employment with the company”.

“The modus operandi of the perpetrators includes setting up false social media profiles in the name of senior TNPA representatives with the aim of extorting money from vulnerable jobseekers‚” the division of state-owned logistics company Transnet said ion a statement.

“TNPA representatives affected thus far include port manager of Durban‚ Moshe Motlohi‚ whose social media information and photographs were duplicated on a false Facebook account. Promises of employment were offered via this account and respondents were duped out of money.”

The statement said these “employment offers have not been issued by the company and advises the public to refrain from responding to such offers or paying any money if requested”.

Fraudulent activity can be reported on Transnet’s toll-free fraud hotline on 0800 003 056‚ email to transnet@tip-offs.com or fax to 0800 00 77 88.
