Alleged rapist's face haunts teen's nightmares

One of the more than 20 girls Peter Dashboy Khoza allegedly raped said she would never forget his face because it was in her nightmares.

Khoza is on trial in the Johannesburg High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court‚ southeast of Johannesburg‚ facing 152 charges including 46 of kidnapping‚ 29 of rape‚ 28 of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm‚ 19 of compelling or causing a child to witness a sexual assault‚ six of theft‚ one of attempted rape and a charge of exposure or causing exposure of genital organs to a child.

Khoza has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He allegedly committed the offences between 2007 and 2012 in Tembisa and Olifantsfontein‚ northeast of Johannesburg. He targeted girls as young as nine years old.

The teenager‚ now 19‚ was 13 years old when Khoza allegedly raped her.

She told the court on Monday that she and her brother were selling clothes in the Winnie Mandela informal settlement in Tembisa on that day in October 2009.

Khoza approached them and said he wanted to buy clothes for someone‚ said the girl‚ who cannot be identified because she is the alleged victim of a crime of a sexual nature.

“He said we should go with him to get money at his place. He carried our bag‚” the girl said.

She said she and her brother‚ also 13 years old at the time‚ followed Khoza.

She said Khoza stopped to speak to someone and then told the siblings that they should run away and hide because there were people following them who wanted to kill them.

“We got into the bush. He told us to lie down‚” she said.

“He told me to undress. I refused.

“He picked up a brick and hit me on my forehead.

“He asked if I wanted the men to come and kill us.”

According to the girl‚ Khoza undressed her and instructed her brother to look away and cover his ears.

“When he hit me‚ I lost strength. He raped me‚” the girl said‚ breaking down in tears.

She said when Khoza was done‚ he told her to get up and get dressed.

“We left and crossed a stream. When my brother and I turned around‚ we did not see the man. He took our bag and the R40 we had on us.”

Khoza’s lawyer‚ Livingstone Nkuna‚ asked the girl how she was able to identify Khoza.

She said: “I had nightmares about him [after the incident] and would see his face.”

The teenager’s brother‚ who also testified on Monday‚ said that they followed Khoza because they trusted him as a customer and believed what he was telling them.

He said he did not see what Khoza did to his sister because he told him to look away.

The girl’s mother testified that her daughter looked confused and was not in a good state on the day of the incident.

The trial continues.
