Cabinet will answer Bashir questions in court

Government on Monday denied a media report that “security cluster ministers held a secret meeting to protect and give safe passage to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir”.

In a statement issued by acting cabinet spokesperson Phumla Williams‚ government said: “The report relies on nameless and faceless sources to make these allegations.”

“Government categorically denies that there was a secret meeting held by the security cluster ministers including minister in the Presidency and the director-general of the Presidency‚ in Cape Town.”

Williams added that “government remains committed to finalise this matter through the court process”.

“It is expected to provide the court with a report that explains how President Bashir left the country.”

 A Gauteng high court ordered this after Bashir left South Africa in defiance of a order sahing he must remain in the country while it deliberated over an International Criminal Court warrant for his arrest on war crimes.
