'I don't agree with Nhleko's Nkandla report': Paul Mashatile

African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng chairperson and one of the party’s long standing members Paul Mashatile has spoken out against some of the findings presented in the Nkandla Report by Police Minister Nathi Nhleko.

In presenting the report, Nhleko stated that President Jacob Zuma is not liable to pay back any cent of the money spent on his private residence and added that all unfinished security upgrades had to be completed‚ and that the visitors’ centre had to be upgraded at taxpayers’ cost to conform to “presidential standards“.

Speaking at the Daily Maverick debate, The Gathering, in Midrand, Mashatile said that he did not agree with the report, especially where Nhleko mentioned that there will be more money spent at Nkandla.

“For now I would like to say it’s his (Nhleko) view. I heard for the first time that the minister said this. I don’t agree with it.”

He stated that the said report has not been sent to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and it will still have to be discussed when it finally lands at Luthuli House.

“That report never came to the ANC. Because in our right minds we can’t say, when the public is complaining, that we’re going to spend more.

“That issue is still going to be discussed by the NEC itself, because it never came to us,” Mashatile said.

Although a lot of people on social media have commended Mashatile on his stance against the excess spending, they have cautioned that he could find himself in trouble when gets back to the office.
