Questions unresolved as Nxasana quits NPA

National Director of Public Prosecutions Mxolisi Nxasana will quit the post on Sunday‚ 10 months after his fitness for office was first called into question by President Jacob Zuma.

On Sunday the Presidency said Mr Nxasana would “vacate” his position as head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) but did not offer any detail.

A national director — who has a 10-year tenure — may not be removed from office unless there has been an inquiry.

As an inquiry into Mr Nxasana was canned on May 11‚ it is likely that he has resigned.
