Students arrested for malicious damage to property

Nineteen students from the King Sabata Dalindyebo Further Education and Training (FET) College in Libode have been arrested for malicious damage to property and public violence.

“Police have arrested 14 female students and five males aged between 22 and 24‚” said police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela.

Fatyela said that the angry students were arrested today (Tuesday) after they trespassed at neighbouring Candlelight Nurse College.

“They caused chaos‚ broke the fencing of the nursing college and terrified the students of the nursing college. Police were called and arrested the rowdy students who have illegally occupied the property‚” said Fatyela.

He said that it was not yet clear why the group of KSD FET College students had gone to the other college.

He said that the students cut open the fencing of the nursing college and removed poles.

They were expected to appear at Libode Magistrate’s Court facing charges of public violence and malicious damage to property.

Both the KSD FET College and the Candlelight Nursing Collage could not be reached for comment.
