Summary of court proceedings of Oscar trial from Day 11

Sean Rens, a service provider responsible for firearm certification, has described Oscar Pistorius as a man with "an enthusiasm and love of guns".

Rens told the court earlier today, on day 11 of the trial, that he had been introduced to Pistorius by Justin Divaris in May 2012.

Rens testified that, at the time, Pistorius had been interested in purchasing a Smith and Wesson 500 calibre handgun, which he had asked Rens to procure for him.

Rens further testified that over the next few months Pistorius had expressed interest in acquiring a further six firearms, including two semiautomatic rifles, three shotguns and a Smith and Wesson .38 special, but none were ever delivered to Pistorius as the order was cancelled soon after he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

Exams Pistorius had written as part of his competency tests were read out in court to show that he had correctly answered questions about when lethal force was allowed to be used.

Rens's testimony was followed by that of Warrant Officer Barend Van Staden, the man responsible for taking photos of the crime scene on the morning of the shooting.

When photos of a shirtless, bloodied Pistorius were shown, Steenkamp's mother June, who was in court for the first time since the first day of the trial, left the court room in the company of a relative and members of the ANC Women's League.

Van Staden is being lead through each photo he took of the scene by Prosecutor Gerrie Nel and asked to state the time at which the photos were taken. His testimony will continue after the tea adjournment.
