2013 Matric top achievers get royal treatment

Earlier today Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga and deputy minister Mohamed Enver Surty treated about 24 cream of the crop Matriculants from different schools around all provinces to a breakfast in celebration of their outstanding results.

The breakfast, which was held at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Sandton, was as a meet and greet occasion for the Ministers and students, it also served as an opportunity to interact and find out what the learners were planning for the future.

“These achievers will be awarded with sponsored bursaries, lap tops and more tonight during the announcement of the pass rate by Motshekga,” says department of basic education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga

Motshekga will be announcing this year’s pass rate at 6pm this evening live on SABC 1.

2012 Matriculants had a pass rate of 73.9%, education experts are predicting an even higher pass rate of 75% for this year's class.

According to Department of Basic Education, more than 700000 candidates wrote (Department of Basic Education) DBE exams whilst 10 000 wrote (Independent Examinations Board) IEB.

All candidates will be able to access their individual results on January 7 either at their schools or exam centres.

Results can be accessed on the DBE site education.gov.za as well as the Sowetan newspaper.
