Agang asks Constitutional Court for secret Zuma vote

Agang SA on Thursday filed papers in the Constitutional Court asking that a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma be voted on by way of secret ballot, the party said.

The party also asked the court to declare Baleka Mbete unfit to be Speaker after she did not allow motion of no confidence in Zuma to be voted on secretly, said Acting Agang President Andries Tlouamma in a statement.

Agang tabled a motion of no confidence in Zuma on November 4 in the National Assembly.

"When I tabled the motion of no confidence I asked the Speaker that she not preside over the motion of no confidence and that she ensure the voting on the motion be done by way of secret ballot. She refused, confirming that she is not impartial when she acts in her capacity as Speaker," said Tlouamma.

It was important that members of Parliament be able to vote without fear of persecution, he said.
