No fairytale ending - Khumalo's love story ends sadly

LAST Monday Kelly Khumalo was reportedly tearful and in a state of disbelief.

One minute she was with the love of her life at a music concert for Can Do campaign where she performed at Dorothy Nyembe Park in Dobsonville, Soweto.

Then a few hours later she saw her soccer hero boyfriend's life cut short.

Khumalo, 30, and Senzo Meyiwa, 27, courted tabloid controversy with a two-year on-and-off romance and the subsequent birth of their child Thingo.

Khumalo has another child, Christian, with jailed musician Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye.

After Maarohanye's imprisonment she settled with Meyiwa, who at that time was still with his wife Mandisa Mkhize.

But lately Khumalo and Meyiwa posed freely for selfies and photos celebrating their love.

They had become inseparable, as was the case on the fateful Sunday Meyiwa was supposed to attend a friend's party after the Can Do concert.

And as they bid farewell to Khumalo's mother to leave for the party two young men stormed in and, in an alleged botched housebreaking, shot Meyiwa.

In the house was Khumalo, her sister Zandi, their mother, her two children and Longwe Twala, son of music veteran Chicco Twala who is rumoured to be dating Zandi.

Khumalo has had some studio time with Chicco recording her latest album Back to My Roots which he produced.

On her CD sleeve Khumalo thanks Longwe for being part of the team that shot her video.

Without mentioning him by name, Khumalo paid tribute to Meyiwa on the album saying: "To all family, friends and the love of my life and the best father I know, your name is engraved in my heart, without you this journey is meaningless."

Khumalo's last picture with Meyiwa was a selfie they took on their way from the Can Do festival. In it, Khumalo with a grin snapped Meyiwa behind the wheel and Zandi striking a pose in the background. On it Khumalo wrote: "My sister photobombing our picture."

They were in Meyiwa's silver BMW X6 he bought, less than a month ago.

Social media went into overdrive with condolences and tributes to the fallen Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.

But some took the opportunity to post hoax messages, such as this one by Manqoba Fat Free Oliphant : "Get the facts first: Senzo guys waz not robbed I waz 2Mahumutsa's party whn he left to go and c Kelly... he waz shoot by Kelly's in laws Zaza waz fightin wit her BF (fience) apparently Senzo tryd to stop th guy n he pulled a gun n shoot him... wat is said on th Media abt th Robbary is nt true... its just to protect th Kelly's family".
